AbiWord gives a familiar feeling to all those who are habitual to office tools. You can equally get this tool as a stand-alone tool or as a fragment of OpenOSX office suite as well. It is equipped with a command key to call shortcuts and you will witness menu bar at same position as in case of most common office and paint programs. Those who are familiar with MS Word office program will not face any pesky differences in its interface. It also gives superb functionality of applying and merging tables as well. You can perform the automated conversion to and from the table but it lacks proficiency when it comes to resize tables. The program also lacks in providing the visual feedback to certain table related operations such as giving no indication that you are ready to drag the table. Similarly there is no word wrapping provision for the writers. At the same time, the program lacks competency while dragging and resizing images. You have to keep an eye on the objects properties when dragging or resizing as there is no visual feedback provided to.

There are some features that are worth noting in this little piece of word processing gem. You are free to use the advanced mail merge features. For example in specific circumstances, you can apply the mail merge features to replicate formatting in many similar pages using a stored database file. The best part of AbiWord is that it is downloadable and takes only few moments time to download and start due to its compact size. Without actually using the heavy-duty MS Word, you can enjoy almost all major features. Although few display artefacts and glitches are annoying but on the whole, I’ll give full marks to AbiWord.
